In the current society, we are searching for who we are. We surround ourselves with brands in the form of clothing and electronic devices that fit our “unique identity”. Our time is spend on doing activities that we can share on Facebook to show the world how happy and social we are. Everything we do is based on improving our external factors, that are based on illusions we create ourselves. These standards are becoming high because of our crave of being unique, that we are never satisfied with the level we are currently at.
Even products follow this incremental line and are just a little bit better than the competitors’ products. The role of a product designer becomes making products that save time so people can focus on other activities. But the time created by this is spend on activities that doesn’t make us happy in the first place.
Great creations come from people with an own drive and passion. We look up to people that find their motivation within themselves, but sadly we don’t question what our own dreams are. Instead of creating products that help us save time, I want to trigger and contribute to the passion of people by giving them the right tools in the form of products and services. I believe that this is how I can improve people’s live to the fullest.
My vision is further explained by the following video's. These helped me to better shape my vision and recognise my view on what could be improved in the current society:
