Dutch Juggling Convention
Treasurer

Reflection

This task give me some bad nights of sleep. I was in control of the budgeting of the convention which means that I’m responsible of the convention being break-even. This year was the first year we didn’t get any money from the government or funds. We spend literally hundreds of hours filling in hard societal correct questions without any result. Last year’s edition would make a €3500 loss if they didn’t receive any money from funds but luckily they got €4000. But we didn’t receive anything for the first time ever in the 24 year old history of this convention! This meant for me to keep tight budgets on everything. When certain parts cost more money than expected, I immediately adjusted my budget rearranging the balance. I spend hours coming up with flawless prices for every possibility of days, nights and food stamps visitors would like to get. My excel skill increased tremendously by making very complex excel formula, which later are easy to fill in for others. At the convention I could see live if we were break-even or not. On Friday evening at 18:00 I knew that from that point on, we could only make profit. This was a big relieve for me, since it was my first time being a treasurer and I was responsible for a total budget of €30.000. I noticed that I really liked to keep track of the budget, make estimations etc. and that I’m also pretty good at it. This skill I can use in estimating costs of a product, predicting sales etc. in the future.
