For me, the biggest challenge of this
project was planning. During the
project I had a lot of stuff going on. I
was the head-organisation of the Dutch
Juggling Convention and my mother
got ill of which I had to take care of. To
make sure that not all my time would
be spend on these 2 factors, I created a
second planning in which the goal was
to work for a certain amount of hours
on the project. In this planning I incorporated
everything I had to do instead
of only the project. This gave me more
overview and I could more realistically
plan my deadlines. I’m very glad that I
finished my project and the organisation
of the convention with a quality
that I’m proud of.
Also in this project I could reach my
goals properly. I wanted to start creating
and with this project I’ve made
many iterations and explored materials.
The only thing I would like to do more
for the next time is doing real user
tests. Now I just talked to people but I
didn’t conduct a real user test.
It was the first time I did a project all by
my own. By this I could finally incorporate
my identity. With this project I
could also let other people experience
how it is to juggle. The installation
creates patterns that could be related
to juggling.
Doing a project on your own also
brings problems with it. Nobody tells
you to be somewhere on time and you
have to motivate yourself to work on
the project. Luckily when I started
building my first iterations I got more
motivated to improve the project. Also
the planning helped a lot with this.
If I could continue with this project, I
would like to try which effect magnets
give to the installation. Also I would like
to do user test and see how other
people experience it. The design propositions
could be worked out to see
which one has the most potential. Also
I would like to spend more time on the
light spheres itself and how these
should look like.
In general I’m really pleased with this
project and I’m happy with the positive
feedback that I received during the
demo-days. People really gave their
own interpretation to the installation
and loved it, but of course there were
also people for which the installation
wasn’t so clear. But I guess it is just like
art, you can love it or hate it.
